DESIGNER RADIATOR

Budget designer radiators

As the variety of designer radiator has increased, so the prices have plummeted. Just 4 or 5 years ago a stylish tower rail was an expensive fixture, but now every plumber’s merchant, every bathroom store and every home improvement or DIY store sell numerous designer models. Indeed, many of the shower rails now cost little more than a standard convection radiator.

Beyond the shower rail

The arrival of the heated shower rail is not the only big change when it comes to innovative and attractive radiator designs. There are now many flat panel radiators being sold at highly affordable prices and many of these radiator models were priced in the thousands rather than the hundreds of pounds or dollars just 3 or 4 year back.

The result is that having an interesting radiator is no longer confined to the bathroom or to those people with larger budgets. You can have mirror radiators in bedrooms, halls and reception rooms, or you can opt for a flat bar or panel radiator as a feature in a minimalist room or an office space.

Slab heater radiators, now available different colours, or alternatively chrome or black, can be tall and narrow or low and flat, and mirror panel radiators can even include a light or an illumination panel. The radiator itself may even be attached to or seated on a secondary decorative panel to add to the overall aesthetic.

Some radiators are designed for specific locations like the corner radiator that can be placed at a change in wall angle and some radiators are intended to be position at the mid height of a wall (i.e. not at skirting board level).

For those with more demanding or discerning tastes who look for the unusual or unique, there are some serious designer radiators available online and at some of the larger DIY and Home Improvement stores. These radiators vary greatly in design and encompass everything from long smooth anthracite panels to complex combinations of panels and pipe sections that resemble modern sculptures. In some cases these radiators are positioned so as to appear to be hung on a wall like a piece of art and they make an eye catching feature in any room in which they appear.

These unusual designs are very much intended for living areas and they combine function with a mix of art and novelty and, even today, they can still command high price tags. That said, some large DIY chains and online stores do stock these stylish radiators and when they do they can become realistically affordable for most people.

The most unusual of radiator designs are often completely unrecognisable as heating units. These designs can have a random appearance with box like sections, or use curves, bends and components that do not resemble pipes or tubes. Despite these strange designs these radiators are still heat efficient and simple to connect to standard central heating systems or domestic electrical circuits).

Different styles and shapes of radiator include the following –

Flat panel, curved, loop, mirror, illuminated, tubular (with round or square pipes), architectural, radiators with designed that can be handed either left or right, and numerous designs where a one or two word summation cannot begin to describe the radiators appearance.
