DESIGNER RADIATOR

Traditional and period style radiators

Traditional or period radiators are typically those with a heavy cast iron appearance and a design that dates back to the first coal fired central heating systems.

Most modern, but traditionally styled radiators are white and they are often given an updated look by framing the period design within an open pipe water supply system. This surrounding pipe work is usually given a stainless steel or brass finish as an additional highlight. This gives the impression that the radiator is almost suspended in mid air and it provides an interesting and updated twist to a traditional design.

One factor to consider with these period design radiators is their front to back width. This dimension will usually be greater than that of a conventional or more modern designer radiator. This can have an impact in certain restricted situations, e.g. when the radiator is to be positioned close to a door.

Traditional towel rail radiators

Many of the traditionally styled designer radiators now come in variations that make them ideal bathroom towel rail radiators.

These radiators have the addition of an extra tubular section above (and sometimes projecting in front of) the main radiator body and this acts as a towel drying rail. This rail is also heated by the central heating system, so it also works as part of the radiator system at all times.

General appearance

Period styled towel rail radiators can be proportioned where the width is greater than the height, or vice versa.

These radiators nearly always look elegant and many who once disguised them with radiator covers now display them for their aesthetic value.

In addition to the conventional white, they can also be obtained in a brushed metal or dark cast iron finish.
